History of the HWS Board
Habersham, White and Stephens County Board of REALTORS® History of the Board: In 1994 most of the Habersham County and White County REALTORS® felt it was time to split away from the Northeast Georgia Board of REALTORS® and form their own Board of REALTORS®. In September of 1994, the process of starting our new Board of REALTORS® began with our first meeting in Pitts Park, Clarkesville, on a picnic table where our group of REALTORS® voted by acclimation our first officers. We had $500.00 and that was it. No office, no Association Executive, no name, no address, no budget, no charter, no rules and regulations, no bylaws, no MLS and on and on. The first President, Chuck Dreher, assisted by President Elect, Jennifer Payne, was charged with completing the necessary paperwork for the National Association of REALTORS® and the Georgia Association of REALTORS® for the establishment of our newly requested Habersham and White County Board of REALTORS®. During the first meeting in Pitts Park some basic guidelines were established such as a Personnel Task Force, to locate our Association Executive and a rental office location. We also set up what we thought our local dues might be so we could move forward with rent, salary for the Association Executive, essential office expenses, etc. We received our National Association of REALTORS® charter on November 7, 1994 and became an operational Board effective for Habersham and White County Board of REALTORS® on January 1, 1995. After several years of operating and each year the Board growing, Stephens County became part of our Board in 1998 Our name changed to: Habersham, White and Stephens County Board of REALTORS®. A few years later we received our tax-exempt status and became incorporated. The Habersham, White and Stephens County Board of REALTORS Mission Statement is: To provide excellent service and valuable tools that maximizes the integrity and professionalism while enhancing the image of all REALTOR members in the present and for the future growth of our Board.
